Blizzard’s popular shooter video game is celebrating its second birthday, but when is the Overwatch anniversary event 2018?
Lucky for you, there isn’t long left to wait until the celebrations get underway. The second Overwatch anniversary event 2018 is will begin today. The event is expected to go live sometime around 6pm BST on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The event will reach its conclusion on Monday, 11 June.
It will be two years on Thursday (24 May) since Overwatch hit the shelves after months of hype.
Despite its age, it remains one of the most popular titles among gamers due to continued updates from the developers and its appeal as an esports title. The Overwatch League, launched earlier this year is on its way to becoming one of the biggest esports competitions around.
Overwatch anniversary event 2018: What’s coming?
The Overwatch anniversary event 2018 will see the release of a number of old skins. However, it is the new legendary skins that fans of the game will want to get their hands on. Leaks ahead of the event’s start time means that players have already caught a glimpse of what’s to come and the reaction has been positive.
As well as new skins, players will finally get to test out Petra, a new map that Blizzard has been teasing over the past week.
This map has been specially designed to enhance Overwatch’s deathmatch mode. A health pack sits in the middle of the map to entice players to engage in combat.
This was revealed by Blizzard in a recent post:
“A group of archaeologists have begun an excavation and preservation project among the ruins of Petra, a new Deathmatch map that puts all heroes on their own, facing off against one another until one hero scores enough eliminations to win the match.”
The release of Petra will also see the start of the game’s first Deathmatch competitive season.
