Brandon “Seagull” Larned, former star of the Overwatch League, has stated that he is unlikely to feature in the upcoming Overwatch All-Star game.
Seagull announced that he is retiring from the professional Overwatch scene earlier this week. The Dallas Fuel star wants to return to full-time streaming after growing his audience during his year in the OWL.
It was believed that he would still compete in the league one last time later this month. He was included in the Pacific roster following a fan vote.
However, the player confirmed in a recent stream that he is unlikely to feature for reasons unconnected to his retirement.
His absence will be a big loss for the Overwatch League, both in the All-Star event and going forward into season two. Seagull has started to make a name for himself as one of the most talented Western players in the league.
However, his departure from professional Overwatch will allow another player to step up into his shoes.
The Overwatch League has yet to announce who that will be. There has so far been no confirmation that Seagull won’t be playing at All-Stars, let alone who his replacement will be.
Seagull is the second OWL star to pull out of the All-Star weekend. London Spitfire’s Kim “Birdring” Ji-hyeok was forced to pull out after picking up an injury. However, his replacement has since been selection. Birdring will be replaced by his Spitfire teammate Park “Profit” Joon-yeong.
Profit recently won the Most Valuable Player award as his team claimed victory in the Grand Finals last month.
Overwatch League All-Star weekend
The Overwatch League All-Star weekend will take place from Saturday, 25 August until Sunday, 26 August.
The match-up will pit a team of OWL’s best players from the Atlantic division against a team of stars from the Pacific division. They will go head-to-head for the final prize of the first season.
Seagull, as well as the other players who made the rosters, were voted for by the fan in a vote that attracted tens of thousands of votes.
