Hip hop musician DJ Khaled will perform at this weekend’s Overwatch League Grand Finals.
The Major Key star will take to the stage to perform a set prior to Saturday’s matches. The first match of Saturday is set to begin at 7pm ET (midnight BST).
Few details of DJ Khaled’s set have been announced, but it seems to have been a late decision. The Overwatch League confirmed that he will he performing via Twitter earlier today.
Music sets at esports event is nothing new. Other artists have attempted similar performances in the past with mixed results.
This is the latest coming together of music and esports in recent weeks. Earlier this month, Luminosity Gaming announced that they had partnered with Universal Music to release a gaming-inspired music playlist.
Overwatch League Grand Finals
In a somewhat surprising matchup, London Spitfire will play Philadelphia Fusion in the Grand Finals.
The Fusion overcame favourites New York Excelsior in the semifinals to earn their place in the final.
They denied the Excelsior the chance to play in front of a home crowd for the first time in the Overwatch League. While games are usually played at the Blizzard Arena in Los Angeles, California, Blizzard will hold the Grand Finals at the Barclays Center, a 19,000-capacity stadium in New York City.
The Overwatch League Grand Finals will kick off on Friday with a best of five, scheduled to begin at 7pm ET. The remaining matches will take place the following day (Saturday, 28 July), starting at 4:30pm ET.
The two teams will be competing for the lion’s share of a $1.4m prize pool and the Overwatch League trophy. The victor will go down in history as the first ever Overwatch League champion.
The Grand Finals can be watched on streaming platforms Twitch and MLG, as well as the Overwatch League website and app.
