The Atlanta Reign could be cooking up something Korean for the future, if the Overwatch League organisation’s latest job opening is anything to go by.
A recent listing on the Esports Jobs website revealed that Atlanta Reign are on the lookout for a chef to provide meals for the players throughout the season. While the job itself is hardly newsworthy, one specific requirement could offer insight into the direction that the organisation hopes to go in.
Among requirements like experience catering to professional sports organisations and living in the Los Angeles, California, area, the Reign also requires that applicants have lived in Korea and have a “firm understanding” of Korean culture and cuisine.
The job ad states that applicants should “have lived in Korea for several years (ideally 5 years) and have a firm understanding of Korean culture and cuisine.”
The future of Atlanta Reign
The Atlanta Reign is one of the newly formed organisations joining the Overwatch League in the 2019 season.
Backed by Cox Enterprises, a leading communications, media, and automotive services company, the Reign went about packing out their roster with stars from around the word, including controversial Danish DPS Daniel “dafran” Francesca. The roster also features players from Finland, Germany, Russia and the United States.
However, the most represented nation on the roster is South Korea. Given the job ad, as well as the dominance of Korean players throughout the first Overwatch League season, this could indicate that further Korean forces could be brought in in the future.
The London Spitfire roster that claimed victory in the 2018 Overwatch League Grand Finals was made up of Korean players including Choi “Bdosin” Seung-tae, Kim “birdring” Ji-Hyeok, and Park “Profit” Jun-young.
Likewise, South Korea has swept up at three consecutive Overwatch League World Cups, having gone three years without losing a game.
