American non-profit 1,000 Dreams Fund will begin offering grants to female Twitch streamers in a bid to support young women who are pursuing their dream in content creation.
As part of their Women’s History Month (which takes place in March) plans, they will be launching a new Streams for Dreams program which will help to support Twitch’s “underserved” female streamers.
The initiative was announced via a press release on Friday, 23 February.
Ten prominent female streamers will take part in a Streams for Dreams fundraising event throughout March. The event will get underway on 1 March come to an end on midnight on 1 April.
The likes of Friskk, Gillyweedtv and theluckmusic will be raising money through their channels.
All money raised will be put into 1,000 Dreams Fund’s Twitch BroadcastHER Grant, which will then be returned to female streamers in the form of grants ranging from $500 to $2,000. The organisation hopes that these payments will help at least four female streamers to turn their streaming hobby into a career.
Grants will only be offered to female streamers located in the US.
Commenting via 1,000 Dream Fund’s official statement, the company’s founder and CEO Christie Garton said:
“As an organisation committed to all dreams, we are excited to partner with members of the Twitch community on this amazing new campaign.”
“The initiative will not only raise critical funds, but will also boost awareness around the shortage of support for these creative young women in the digital broadcasting space.”
Andrew Schroeder, Director of Charity Partnerships at Twitch said:
“The event will elevate the importance of greater gender equity during Women’s History Month and is a wonderful opportunity for members of the Twitch community to engage with this issue, while giving back through 1,000 Dreams Fund’s Twitch BroadcastHER grant.”
