Smite is Hi-Rez Studio’s take on the popular multiplayer online battle arena genre. Two teams of five battle to destroy their opposition’s Titan, a giant warrior that must be taken down in order to win the game. Players pick from a range of gods, inspired by Greek, Chinese, Egyptian, Hindu, Norse, Mayan and Roman mythology, and must work together to achieve their objective.
Smite esports has done well in a tough market dominated by Riot Games’ League of Legends, Valve’s Dota 2 and Blizzard’s Heroes of the Storm. While it is some way off of competing with the the big three, the Smite World Championship offers a $1 million prize pool that provides plenty of incentive to Smite’s finest players. Now in its fifth season, Smite’s esports scene continues to thrive.
