Despite the level of competition in the team-based first-person shooter market, Overwatch found a way to stand out with its memorable heroes, detailed backstories and easy to play, but difficult to master gameplay. Two teams of heroes use an array of abilities to score kills, capture points and complete objectives.
Backed by Activision Blizzard, a video game developer with not only plenty of experience but plenty of cash too, the company is working hard to ensure that its game, well-suited for esports, is a hit. Blizzard hopes to create the first mainstream esport. The Overwatch League, arguably the best produced competition that esports has seen yet, got off to a good start and promises great things for the future of the competitive scene.
