Hearthstone
Part of Blizzard’s hugely successful Warcraft franchise, Hearthstone is a online collectible card game that has attracted more than 70 million registered players. Players use a 30 card deck to cast spells and summon heroes in a bid to reduce their opponent’s health to zero to secure victory and a prize of gold. More wins means more gold which means more cards.
While MOBAs and shooters dominate the esports scene, Hearthstone holds it own against other titles in those genres. As Blizzard bids to become a leader in esports, the developer has been offering the game’s finest talents a shot at increasingly large prize pools. Both BlizzCon and the Hearthstone World Championship now offer pools of more than $1 million, which will only help the title’s esports scene to grow.
